The lovable robot that nobody plays with is finally getting some tweaks
Overwatch's robo-turret Bastion has been a contentious and unpopular character choice since the game launched last May. Classified as a defense hero, the bot's destructive sentry mode proves powerful against opponents caught unawares, but is easily countered and can be knocked-out with little effort. Of all of the game's heroes, few have been as neglected or ignored. Since the game launched he hasn't received any tweaks or balance changes, despite being one of the least-played characters in the game.
It's time Bastion got some love, and it seems like that may finally be happening.
In the middle of a lengthy conversation on the Overwatch forums calling for the developers to "address Bastion," the game's principal designer Geoff Goodman stepped in to say that changes are on the way. "I'm actually working on some changes for him right now," Goodman said. "I'm not quite sure when these changes will hit the live game, we're still testing different things internally."
Blizzard's most recent character updates reined in Roadhog's hook, nerfed both Ana and D.Va, and buffed stealthy hacker Sombra. It remains to be seen how drastic Bastion's tweaks will be, but it's entirely possible we'll see an overhaul on the scale of the Symmetra rework last November.
In other Overwatch news, Blizzard announced yesterday that the game now has more than 25 million players – up another 5 million since October. The award-winning hero-based shooter still isn't even a year old but continues to be the company's fastest growing game. It's an impressive number, but it's worth noting that this is a reflection of the number of registered players – not necessarily the number of copies that the game has sold.
