$1 million prize pool on offer in the international competition
Clash Royale, the massive spin-off of Clash Of Clans, is getting its own official tournament called The Crown Championship. It's open to all players level 8 and above and there's a $1 million prize pool on offer.
The tournament is organized by the game's creators, Supercell. "The Crown Championship is a massive, open competition for the title of the greatest Clash Royale player in the world," says community manager Tim Smith. "It will start out in multiple global regions during the Spring Season and become full access by Fall Season in August 2017. There will be over $1 million in prizes in the first year, with multiple seasons of fair, competitive league play culminating in an international live Grand Finals event in November."
Clash Royale was released in 2016 for iOS and Android and is a real-time strategy game with a tower defense twist. It was an immediate hit with mobile players and even scored a BAFTA esports audience award last month.
Supercell held its first North American Clash Royale tournament in Los Angeles at the end of last year, and ended with the Crown Duel. The overall winner took home $15,000 and a trip to Supercell HQ in Helsinki. The Crown Championship seems like the next step in esports domination.
