Almost a decade in-the-making sequel finally gets a formal debut
Creator Michel Ancel describes Beyond Good & Evil 2 as a "seamless online playground" that you can play by yourself and a friend. Sounds much bigger than the modest (yet undoubtedly resonant and influential) action-adventure game that came out in 2003. The trailer showcased today at Ubisoft's E3 press conference speaks to big ambitions – just look at the level of detail.
The game takes place on System 3, a "diverse" center of interstellar trade in the 24th century that runs on slave labor. Your role is as a pirate that's rising through the ranks as you fight for freedom in the galaxy. It's set years before the birth of Jade, the protagonist from the first Beyond Good & Evil.
According to Ubisoft, the Montpellier studio will be developing the game "alongside" its community of fans through something called a "Space Monkey Program." Sounds like some sort of early access program, maybe? Release info for Beyond Good & Evil 2 is TBD.
