Producer Brian Jenkins thinks a return to the role "would be absolutely brilliant"
Just over a week ago the news broke that Sniper Elite studio, and owner of the 2000AD brand, Rebellion had struck a deal with IMG Global to make a new Judge Dredd TV series. Now the producer on that series has publicly declared his desire for Karl Urban to return to the role of Dredd.
Urban played Judge Dredd in the 2012 movie, Dredd, (also created with IMG Global) but you'll have seen him more recently as Doctor 'Bones' McCoy in Star Trek Beyond. He'll also star in the upcoming Thor: Ragnarok.
Jenkins revealed his casting preference in 2000 AD Thrill-Cast, which you can listen to below.
“We have had many conversations prior to this, about all sorts of things," says Jenkins. "He’s also very busy, a full-time professional actor. So we’re going to have some long and complicated conversations I would imagine, and we’ll see where we go. It’s too early to tell yet, but if we can use him and he’s available to us, then I think that would be absolutely brilliant. There’s always a possibility he will be busy, or that his schedule for other movies won’t allow — basically, we don’t know at this stage.”
Currently titled Judge Dredd: Mega-City One the live-action adaptation will follow a group of judges and, according the the BBC, will be filmed in the UK.
