9. Plaque Attack

Plaque Attack – which features a tube of toothpaste firing at food making its way down the screentweaks the Space Invaders formula in a couple of ways. There's a time limit, the toothpaste tube shrinks as it runs down, and the food reverses direction once it successfully destroys a tooth. There's a split second between a tooth turning yellow once a hot dog or ice cream hits it and then dissolving away under a hot gush of plaque, and during that second a successful shot of paste will save it. Plaque Attack looked like the kind of game misguided parents foist on their kids, but it was actually one of several challenging heirs to the original alien shoot-em-up that the Atari 2600 specialized in, alongside Demon Attack and Galaxian.
