Competitive card game spin off has now launched in open beta
Gwent, the card game from The Witcher series, has now been spun off into its very own title and launched in open beta yesterday. Creators CD Projekt Red created a special cinematic trailer for the launch featuring all your Witcher favorites. Be warned though, it'll just make mourn Geralt even harder.
Gwent was the game you played in The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt when you ran out of other sidequests, but now it's a standalone, best of three competitive title. Unlike its main rival Hearthstone the board has three distinct zones, Melee, Ranged and Siege, and playing a card doesn't deplete any resources or mana. Winning depends on collecting more points that your opponent, rather than just surviving the game, so combos and card placement are everything.
“We’re opening the gates to everyone who wanted to play, but didn’t make it into the Closed Beta, and — at the same time — we’re introducing some pretty significant content and gameplay changes like adding animated versions of cards for every card in the game, new starter decks, or how weather cards work,” says Marcin Iwiński, co-founder of CD PROJEKT RED.
