As anticipation for E3 and the chance to see more of the new Star Wars: Battlefront II builds, spare a thought for a Star Wars game that never made it. The internet is here to remind you about Star Wars: Battlefront III, the cancelled game that was in the works at British studio Free Radical Design. It's not the first chance we've had to stare at its corpse, an unfinished alpha version of the training mission appeared on Youtube last year and industry rumors swirled about nefarious motives behind the cancellation. Ultimately though, Free Radical cofounder Steve Ellis told GamesTM magazine that at had at the time of cancellation it was a "99 percent finished game" and the project ended for "financial reasons." These 172 screenshots – ten of which you can see below – share some of the same elements and reveal little new information, but are another interesting entry for the post-mortem file. So Star Wars: Battlefront III is gone but not forgotten. Until last year a studio called Frontwire was even attempting to create a version of it – building on Free Radical assets – called Star Wars: Galaxy In Turmoil, before Lucasfilm and EA put a stop to it. It's now set in a "futuristic cyber-punk themed universe" and due out later this year.
