Dominic West joins the cast of the reboot alongside Alicia Vikander
Jimmy McNulty just became Lara Croft's dad. Dominic West, star of The Wire and The Affair, has joined the Tomb Raider movie reboot currently in production.
He'll play the role of archaeologist Lord Richard Croft, the Earl of Abbingdon, alongside Alicia Vikander as Lara Croft. Actors Walton Goggins and Daniel Wu have also been attached to the project.
In the lore of the games the role of Lara's father has changed through the various iterations. In one version, Lord Richard Croft died in a plane crash when Lara was just nine years old, in the latest reboot of the story he died in an apparent suicide, (with Lara finding the corpse) that later turned out to be a murder perpetrated by the Order of Trinity.
Late last year movie producer Graham King revealed the new Tomb Raider film would focus on Lara's daddy issues.
“Well this is kind of what we call a ‘back to the roots story’. This is a young Lara Croft in search to see if her father is dead or alive, so it has a very emotional part to it and i think that’s what Alicia found so interesting about it. I think the storytelling is really good and I think we’ve got the right crew and a great director and I think it’s going to be really fun making a film like this," he told Hey U Guys.
