First look at 'Episode VIII' from Star Wars Celebration in Orlando
The first trailer for Star Wars: The Last Jedi, due December 15, premiered Friday during a panel at the Star Wars Celebration fan convention in Orlando.
The trailer focuses on Rey's Jedi training with Luke Skywalker. "Breathe. Just, breathe. Now reach out. What do you see?" Skywalker says in the voiceover while Rey navigates the Force. "Light. Darkness. A balance," she responds, while tracing the symbol of the Jedi Order (which you may recognize from games like Star Wars The Old Republic and numerous other Old Republic related media ). "It's so much bigger," Skywalker responds.
During the panel, director Rian Johnson told fans that the film is currently still in the post-production and editing process. In addition to Johnson and Lucasfilm chief Kathleen Kennedy, the panel also featured guest appearances by Daisy Ridley – who who revealed that The Last Jedi goes "deeper" into her backstory – as well as Mark Hamill, John Boyega, new cast member Kelly Marie Tran (Rose, a "maintenance worker in the Resistance") and the android BB-8.
The last words of The Last Jedi's first trailer that will cause the biggest uproar, and no doubt fuel speculation and debate for the next eight months. "I only know one truth," Luke tells Rey. "It's time for the Jedi…to end."
The poster for the movie was also revealed today, which sees Rey adopting the same pose seen in the original Star Wars movie poster from 1977.
