$60 games, and pricey Pro Controllers and Joy-Cons? Better hope you've been hoarding coins
Nintendo's big debut of its new Switch console focused on the hardware's technical niceties: primarily the Joy-Con controllers that come with HD Rumble (what Nintendo calls haptic feedback) and an IR camera that can recognize hand gestures. But what happens when you inevitably lose or wreck them? And what about the accessories that don't come in the the box? And the games? Here's how those prices are looking.
The Legend of Zelda: Breath of The Wild is on all the major sites at $59.99, but Amazon Prime customers could briefly pre-order for a sweet $47.99.
1,2, Switch, which looks like the sort of game that would usually be packed in with a console as a freebie, has a retail price of $49.99. Arms, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe are both currently on the Nintendo site at $59.99. Snipperclips - Cut it out, together!, meanwhile, is just $19.99
Nintendo Switch Pro Controller
This controller has a more traditional design, better suited for games like The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim and The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. It isn't included in the box and it'll cost you $69.99, which is $20 more than the current price of a Sony PlayStation Dualshock 4 controller on Amazon.
Nintendo is selling extra sets of the Joy-Con controllers that are packed in with the system for $79.99 a pair, or individual right or left controllers for $49.99 each. There is definitely some patented "Nintendo magic" going on with that math!
Joy-Con Charging Grip
This is a "smart" version of the thing that you plug the Joy-Con controllers into in order to achieve a more traditional gamepad configuration. It'll set you back $29.99 and it lets you charge the Joy-Cons when connected to a power source via USB.
Nintendo Switch Dock Set
You'll need an extra dock if you want to run your Switch on multiple TVs without having to wrangle cables. It costs $89.99 and includes an AC adapter and an HDMI cable.
Optional if you want to play Mario Kart 8 Deluxe and exceedingly optional if you don't, a pair of these chunks of circular molded plastic will run you $14.99. Compared to everything else, that almost feels like a bargain.
