Sources say the Nintendo Classic Mini: Super Nintendo Entertainment System will launch for the holidays
Last week Nintendo broke the hearts of nostalgic fans with the news it was cancelling the NES Classic Edition, with the last shipments of the adorable mini console going out to retailers this month. Now it seems as if Nintendo had a reason for killing the fan favorite, it could be releasing a SNES Classic Edition in time for the holidays.
Sources close to Nintendo told Eurogamer that a Nintendo Classic Mini: Super Nintendo Entertainment System is already in development.
It's an exciting prospect, and not just because so many gamers missed out on the limited supplies of the NES Classic Edition. The original SNES was home to legendary games like Super Mario World, Donkey Kong Country, Super Mario Kart and Street Fighter II.
The now discontinued NES Classic Edition has turned out to be a smart investment if you were able to grab one. Since news of the cancellation prices on auction sites for the $60 machine have risen to around $300.
